EXPLORING THE ENCHANTED KAKAMEGA FOREST 30th MAY TO 1ST JUNE 2015

The Kakamega Forest National Reserve is situated in the Lake Victoria basin, about 50km north of Kisumu city. The Forest is 44km2 and basically in the Western Province . Being the only remnant in Kenya of the unique Guineo-Congolian forest ecosystem, the park offers unique wildlife and scenic beauty. For bird and butterfly watchers, this is the place to visit. The forest is home to over 400 species of butterflies, about 300 bird species and 27 species of snakes. The park also supports more than 350 species of trees and 7 primate species including the endangered DeBrazza monkey, black and white colobus monkey and vervet monkey. The Potto (the world’s slowest mammal on earth), duikers and Dik diks are also found in Kakamega Forest National Reserve.
Temperature ranges from 20-30 c and rainfall from 200mm – 700 mm.The region experiences 2 rain seasons: Long rains – March & April & short rains – Nov/ December

• Birds: 330 species of which some are found nowhere else in the country. The common one being the Blue turaco.

Itinerary:
Day 1- Saturday 30th May, 2015
6.30 am depart Nairobi
Drive through the Rift Valley with a brief stop over at the view point .
10.00 am Brief stop over at Nakuru Town,
Proceed to Kisumu town via Kericho, where we shall have an opportunity to view the vast tea estates
1.00pm Arrive at Kisumu where we shall have stop over for lunch.
2.00pm proceed to Kakamega town,
4.00 pm arrival and check in at a hotel.
7.00 pm dinner and evening out.

Day 2- Sunday 1st May, 2015
6.00 am Early morning breakfast followed by a full day visit to Kakamega forest.
5.00 pm return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3- Monday 2nd May, 2015
Depart for Nairobi after breakfast, with a detour to the crying stone
We shall use the Narok route.
Arrive early afternoon.
